Model Reduction Via Optimization Of Frequency Responce

Bogdan Dumitrascu, Andrei Petre

Abstract

A comparison of two model reduction methods is proposed in this paper. The first is the classical balanced model truncation, while the second is a direct optimization method, using convex stability domains. Design of approximately linear phase IIR filters is performed using the two methods and the second is shown to be generally better for a frequency weighted least squares criterion. However, the first may serve for initialization of the optimization process.
