Abstract

This paper focuses on the sulphur dioxide (SO2) emission control using PI-P controller by considering Coefficient Diagram Method (CDM) as a candidate. To analyse the removal efficiency of SO2, Liquid-Gas absorption column with mixing unit is modelled using SIMULINK in MATLAB platform. Sulphuric acid containing hydrogen peroxide is used as a scrubbing liquid. To compute the parameters of the CDM-PI-P controller, process is approximated as First Order Plus Time Delay (FOPTD) transfer function model. Performance of the CDM-PI-P controller is analysed and compared with conventional control techniques such as Ziegler-Nichols PI controller (ZN-PI) and Internal Model Control based PI controller (IMC-PI) in terms of time domain performance measures such as settling time, rise time, overshoot (ts, tr, %Mp) and error indices (ISE, IAE, ITAE). The simulation results prove that the CDM-PI-P controller provides most consistent performance as compared to the conventional controllers.
