Abstract

After a slow and somewhat tentative beginning, machine vision systems are now finding widespread use in assembly processes. The paper describes the integration of Vision Tools in the stages of sequential assembling of a mechanical product and final checking of its integrity. Vision Tools represent a powerful category of feature detection and measuring operators. They are used to detect a number of arc-shaped edges in the greyscale image of the final product in predefined areas, corresponding to the correct placement of assembly components. Experimental results are reporting concerning the integration of multiple Adept Robot Vision systems into a flexible assembly line and the real time quality and control of final assembly products.
