Self-Balancing Manufacturing Systems Regarded As Hybrid Dynamical Systems

Abstract

This paper focuses on a particular class of manufacturing systems that balance themselves, named also "bucket brigades". The self-balancing is given by the spontaneous functioning at a steady production rate that is called stationary behavior. It is proposed an analysis of self-balancing manufacturing systems modeled as hybrid dynamical systems. This approach allows considering this type of systems as hybrid systems with autonomous switching and autonomous impulses (jumps), which display discontinuous state trajectories. Furthermore, the hybrid model allows some conclusion regarding the stability of such systems. A sufficient condition to reach the stationary behavior is proved.
