Abstract

The parametric sensitivity, particularly with respect to control variables, of a no isothermal homopolimerization system exhibiting gel and glass effects is performed. As example, the initiated radical polymerization of methyl methacrilate to be achieved in a bath bulk process is considered. Because the reaction is strongly exothermic, the reactor is usually operated controlling the temperatur4e profile, which gives desired final polymer properties. This temperature profile is determinate by using a process model. The value of sensitivity functions shows that the thermal agent temperature has the greatest influence on the mass reaction temperature, as well as on other state and output variables. So, this parameter is recommended as manipulated variable and a control method combining cascade and split range control is suggested.
